HARPENDEN EXPLORER SCOUT UNIT
Welcome

Welcome

We are Harpenden Explorer Scout Unit (HESU), a group of over 70 scouts aged between 14 and 19.  We are run by a group of leaders and an elected committee.  The committee run all evenings and participate in planning many other events.

Every Thursday evening we have either a themed evening or a visit to a local leisure facility, for example Top Golf, bowling or Quasar.  Along with our weekly meeting HESU participates in many local events, for example, helping out for the Harpenden Carnival.

Every summer we pack up and leave Harpenden and travel to a mountainous region in Europe for a two week expedition, commonly known as Expo.  Here we stay in a chalet and venture off into the mountains, local towns and villages.  Other activities can range from mountain biking, climbing, and white water rafting to abseiling and high level hiking.

Once we have returned from this strenuous adventure holiday, HESU throw themselves into the yearly Gang Show performance, both performing in it and helping with make-up and Front of House.  Along with this show, HESU perform in the infamous Old Time Music Hall to raise money.

Throughout the rest of the year HESU participate in Peak Assault, 40 Mile Hike and two Weekend’s Away, travelling to a chalet in England or Wales for a spot of Hill Walking, sight seeing and good old scouting socialising.

Committee is made up of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations, Webmaster, Quartermaster, Sports and Social, Barman and New Members each with their own roles within the committee.  This year we also have a Charity Chairman and Vice Charity Chairman due to the massive fundraising effort to provide enough money for our new hut.
